In Person @ Crescent Heights Community Hall, 1101 2 St. NW, Calgary, AB

The Alberta Play Therapy Association (APTA) is pleased to present a two-day clinical series in Calgary on May 29 and 30, 2026. Featuring seasoned trauma therapist and educator Monica Bhatara, this in-person event at the Crescent Heights Community Hall offers practitioners an immersive opportunity to bridge the gap between neurological theory and the embodied realities of the playroom.

This transformative workshop integrates a Polyvagal framework with play therapy to deepen clinicians’ understanding of how trauma shapes the nervous system and children’s capacity for regulation, connection, and felt safety. Participants will learn to identify autonomic states as they emerge in play, behavior, and relational engagement. Through applied case material and practical tools, clinicians will strengthen their use of autonomic mapping and polyvagal-informed interventions to support co-regulation, resilience, and therapeutic attunement. Grounded in an accountable and systemically responsive lens, this training also invites clinicians to notice and name how historical, cultural, and intergenerational forces shape nervous systems and influence the play therapy relationship.

With nearly three decades of experience, Monica Bhatara (MA, RTC, RCS, FOTT, BCRPT) brings an integrative approach rooted in somatic and expressive therapies. Her practice is deeply informed by Indigenous Psychology and decolonizing values, helping clinical practitioners build the nervous-system-informed confidence needed for truly trauma-responsive care.

Running from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily, the series includes lunches, snacks, and refreshments for all attendees. Sign up now to secure your spot! Location TBA!
