Art Therapy: Enhancing Professional and Personal Practice

Workshop will take place at the Art Gallery of Calgary:
#117, 8th Avenue SW (Stephen Avenue Mall)

 

Come immerse yourself in art for a day! This one-day workshop will examine art processes from a cultural, clinical and personal perspective.  Participants will be given a guided tour of the gallery, as well as provided case examples of at-risk children who have engaged in an art therapy process. Participants will also engage in an art activity to deepen their personal and professional practice.  No previous art experience or talent is required for this workshop.  The day will also draw upon drama therapy techniques, breath & bodywork and a guided meditation. Please wear comfortable clothingthatyou can make art and move in. As the workshop is being held downtown, participants are asked to consider GREEN options and get dropped off, or take the c-train to the conference. 

Allan Rosales, M.A. (Art Therapy) completed an M.A. in Art Therapy from Concordia University. During his studies, he conducted research with respect to the development of an art therapy assessment for adults with developmental delays at the Centre for the Arts and Human Development. In 2002, Allan was recognized by the Forces Avenir Awards and the Government of Quebec for the project Creative Arts Therapies Used in the Treatment of Depressed and Suicidal Adolescents implemented at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Currently, Allan is a Children’s Trauma Counselor for the YWCA of Calgary (Child and Family Services; Sheriff King Home) working in the area of severe domestic violence and neglect. Allan teaches meditation and in April, will complete his training as a certified Ashtanga Yoga teacher. 

Jenne Newman, MA, CCC; has an extensive background working with children, adolescents and young adults. It was Jenne’s interest in Fine arts and Psychology that led to her Master’s of Creative Arts Therapy and registration as a Canadian Certified Counsellor. Jenne’s focus includes working with children and youth who have experienced abuse, depression, grief, loss and trauma. Jenne’s dynamic approach in supporting her clients fosters empowerment, encourages the client to take an active role in their treatment and instills hope throughout the healing process. Jenne enjoys photography, nature and discovering the wonders of the world with her daughter and husband.
